Heart Life Area

Creativity, passion, and dreams.

Creativity, passion,
and dreams.

OVERVIEW

Heart grows your creativity, so you become passionate about life and pursue your dreams.

When the Heart opens, you become passionate about life. Imagination conceives new possibilities, which are realized through expression.

If fear rules your life, dreams are ignored and suppressed. When we drift aimlessly, we close our hearts and live a life that is not truly ours.

What is the Heart Area?

Heart covers play, expression, and intuition. The deeper we can love, the greater our capacity to create. Creativity is the act of connecting elements previously separated. Dreams that can guide the act of creation arise from deep within. And the Heart gives the courage necessary to pursue those dreams. You can live a thousand lives but can only call one your own.

Deep within, there is a spark waiting to be kindled. This inner fire needs to be tended so that dreams can be realized. There is a wellspring of creativity within, waiting to be uncovered should we trust the wisdom of the Heart. The Heart speaks through dreams, and if love guides your steps, it will take you on a journey that will undoubtedly be mysterious.

Creativity comes when we dare to express our innermost ideas. Using imagination to manifest things into the physical plane is magic. The ability to sense possibilities and know which ones to pursue requires intuition. Love is the fire that inspires our creativity. And when we listen to the Heart, it will guide us on an adventure, deep into the mysteries of life itself.

Fear closes the Heart

We exist in a culture drenched in fear. There’s a hole in our chest where a fire should burn. If we do not tend the flame, it will wither away. Many try the path of consumerism to fill a void, but it doesn’t work because we are meant to create. We fear our greatness and what would happen if we pursued our dreams. But the fearful voices lure us into a comfortable, empty life.

So much emphasis is placed on fixing, adding to, or changing things from the outside. The world does not promote creativity because it means going within. And should we be brave enough, inner demons more terrifying than anything outside of us will guard the door. Our addictions prevent us from going through. But if we do not find the way, we will waste this precious life.

We fear our own success above all else. So we play it small, choosing the well-trodden route. There we seek security, though it is never guaranteed. Numbness is the price we pay, for the ache in the chest otherwise becomes too great to bear. If only we had discovered what would’ve happened if we had simply tried. But the end always comes too soon, leaving only regret.

How to follow your dreams

Follow your Heart, for life is really short. You don’t have time to ask why, how, and what. Take the next step and choose love over fear. Your Heart has been telling you for a long time that it knows the way. Learning its language requires practice, like all things. The beauty of living your dreams and creating from the Heart is one of the most valuable experiences in life.

We don’t make up dreams but discover them. Often it happens by following the breadcrumbs along the path of life. We create something, then another thing, and we keep going because we love it. Life can be very magical if we allow it to be. Start creating and never stop. Follow your dreams and ignore the ones society has placed upon you. Trust that you will realize them.

Creativity increases the more it is used. There is an endless well of possibilities waiting to be uncovered inside of you. Inspiration comes as suddenly as lightning. Whether we choose to follow is the only question that matters. Not everything will turn out the way we imagined. But dreams do come true and teach you beyond anything what it means to be alive.

Five pillars of creativity

1

Imagination

Seeing what does not yet exist. The ability to disconnect from the physical senses and imagine what could be is the primary skill that differentiates humans from other animals. The more clearly we perceive ideas, visions, and possibilities, the more easily we can change reality. Cultivating imagination requires time and space, away from external input. Not all that we imagine will come to pass, and that is not the goal. Tinkering with possibilities mentally, before testing them in the world, saves tremendous energy for pursuing the right things.

2

Play

Freely experimenting without chasing results. The joy of simply doing activities for the sake of doing them is something most people lose as they grow older. But life is not that serious. What is it that we strive for? When play gets promoted, it’s usually for its benefits’ sake, such as productivity or better relationships, but that misses the point. We don’t dance to reach a particular spot on the floor. Not all activities have to make sense. Simply doing for doing’s sake and having a blast is not only wise but a simple fact of being human.

3

Expression

Giving form to what is inside of you. It takes great skill to manifest ideas. They are infinite possibilities, yet reality is finite. Expression is the act of moving infinity into a finite world. Each person has their own methods, but increasing the depth and volume of what we produce is the heart of creativity. The more authentically we express ideas, the better the art. Through expression, every endeavor in life can benefit. The goal is to become a vessel for creative ideas. The practice is to create more and consume less.

4

Intuition

Perception beyond ordinary awareness. To intuit is to deeply feel the world. To sense beyond the present moment into the past and future is a natural human skill. Caution is certainly needed. Intuition can come dressed as a sensation, a feeling, or a thought, but comes from beyond ordinary consciousness. To sense what is to come, what may be, what has passed and has been forgotten is to more fully trust life. The universe is far more mysterious than the contemporary world has us believe. Listen to the inner voice as to what to do and what not to do.

5

Courage

Following your Heart. This emotional center senses different information and comes from within. The Mind will sometimes balk at the Heart’s suggestions. But acting on what you know to be true and loving is what it means to be a warrior. To fall in love again and again with dreams, people, and the world is what makes life worth living. When the call comes, do not resist it. Move through the fear. On the other side is something of far more value. Pursuing what you really want takes tremendous courage and is hard. Because it requires choosing love over fear.

Five practices
for cultivating passion

1

Daydream

Spend time without much external input, preferably in nature, daydreaming. Stay present with your imagination; you do not need to control it, but don’t get distracted by lesser pursuits. It’s a state of awareness that requires relaxation and the elimination of distraction. Avoid technology, books, or conversation; they often numb imagination rather than increase it. Doing nothing is the key.

Take breaks from work, social life, and other duties to imagine. Let yourself explore inner realms. It’s normal to feel a slight unease as if you should be doing something else. Stay with it; do it for 15 minutes, and then slowly increase the time. Imagine possibilities, wander around a problem, a wish, or nothing at all. Boredom is simply fear in disguise.

2

Do something fun

Identify small activities that feel like play and weave them into your day. This can be with or without people. Go back to your youth: what did you like to do? Start doing it again. Be like a child. Have fun and enjoy this wild existence while you’re here.

Play games, start a sport, spend time with kids, go out there and do something you’ve never done before. Enjoy delicious food, learn a new skill; it doesn’t have to be extreme or cost money. Small acts purely for the sake of being alive are enough. Make play a priority. A good life depends on it.

3

Make music

There are so many modes of expression, but music is shared by every culture and era. It requires patience, but with practice, it gives you the freedom to express yourself. You can play alone or with others, which makes it a rare gift.

Study an instrument. Less is more. This includes guitar, harmonica, singing, etc. Enjoying it matters more than being good at it. Learning to play with others makes it easier, but just play no matter what. Don’t take on too many instruments at once; go deep into a few instruments and stay consistent. Over time it will enrich your life.

4

Practice magic

Study a magical art. Intuition, like anything in life, can be trained and developed. Extrasensory awareness is part of being human, so you might as well make use of it. Be careful, as this is a very real world with danger lurking in the shadows. Approach it with caution and respect.

Learn an intuitive craft such as tarot, astrology, active imagination, shamanic journeying, or lucid dreaming. Anything that puts you into a trance or an altered state of awareness can be used to develop your intuition. The secret lies not in the cards, charts, or images, but in the acquired skill of the beholder who can sense other realms.

5

Hold ceremony

Incorporate small ceremonies to mark important life phases. Ceremonies change consciousness and open the space to reconnect with the Heart. They serve as powerful reminders. Different cultures have different practices, so partake in those that resonate and are available to you.

Join communal ceremonies, especially for phase changes in life, celestial events, coming of age, honoring the birth of a child, weddings, and funerals. Ceremonies are everywhere, for all passages, people, and times. Find ceremonies that resonate with your intention and connect you to the Heart.

Common questions

The Heart grows love, so you can create and pursue your dreams.
Without creativity, life feels empty.

Heart is the area of creativity, passion, and dreams. It is the place of possibility. It gives us the courage to persist through fear and create what we really want. The essence of this area is developing the capacity to feel our emotions and use them to create.

Creativity is the act of connecting elements that were once separate. It starts with imagining possibilities. Then comes the grueling process of manifesting them into form. Last is the sharing of the work, just as important as the initial idea.

The courage to pursue what you really want stems from the Heart. It’s not the absence of fear, but the commitment to move through it. When you trust your vision and take small actions toward your dreams, a path will appear. See the journey through to the end.

Fear closes the Heart and is a clear signal. As Steven Pressfield writes, “The more scared we are of a work or calling, the more sure we can be that we have to do it.” This tension is there to remind you that you have the freedom to choose: love or fear.

The Heart speaks in dreams. You’ll have to discern between projection and when the world actually speaks to you. Coming from a place of silence will allow you to receive the signs as they are. Then simply plunge in and follow the call.

Start by making space away from everyday distractions such as screens, work, and family. Deeply immersing yourself in a magical craft trains your extrasensory abilities. Approach it with caution and respect. Go slow and learn to trust the voice within.
